Sabah State Mosque

The Sabah State Mosque is the older of KK's two major mosques and was the largest in Sabah when it was completed in 1977. Its golden dome and pale minarets dominate the skyline of the Sembulan district, visible from much of the city. The design draws on classical Islamic architecture filtered through a Malaysian sensibility, with ornate tilework and a broad colonnade surrounding the main prayer hall.

Non-Muslim visitors may enter outside of prayer times provided they are modestly dressed; a head covering is required for women and free robes are available at the entrance. The grounds are well-maintained and quiet, making it a calm stop away from the bustle of the waterfront.
