Jalan Bangkung is one of Bangsar's best-kept secrets — a quieter residential street a few blocks south of the main Telawi strip, lined with independent restaurants, cafés, and bars that attract a local crowd rather than the expat-heavy Telawi scene. The mix includes some of KL's better Italian restaurants, several specialty coffee shops, and a Malaysian fine-dining spot or two. The atmosphere is more intimate and less commercial than the busier streets nearby.
The street is at its best in the evenings when the restaurants are lit up and the relative quiet (by KL standards) makes conversation possible. Several of the cafés here are known as good places to work during the day. The surrounding lanes have more independent retail and a small organic food market on weekends.
