Mahbub Restaurant

24-hour mamak restaurant in Bangsar beloved for biryani, roti canai, and murtabak by KL locals

A long-running mamak (Indian-Muslim) restaurant in Bangsar that is busy 24 hours a day and is loved by KL locals for its roti canai — the layered, ghee-soaked flatbread served with curry — and its teh tarik, the pulled milk tea that is Malaysia's national drink. The cook makes the roti in front of you, flipping the dough into wide translucent sheets before folding it down onto the griddle.

The menu also covers nasi lemak, mee goreng, fried chicken, and the usual mamak biryanis and curries. Everything is fast and inexpensive — under RM 15 for a substantial meal. Conditions are basic (plastic chairs, fluorescent lights) but the food and the after-midnight crowd are entirely authentic. Cash only.
