Amideva Buddha Park, near the base of the Swayambhunath hill, contains Nepal's largest statue of the Buddha — a serene gilded figure about 10 metres high in seated meditation posture, set within an open garden complex with smaller statues and a circumambulation path. The park was built relatively recently (completed in 2006) but follows the traditional form and iconography of Mahayana Buddhist sacred spaces.
The park is much quieter than Swayambhunath above it and is often combined with a visit to the stupa. It makes for a meditative counterpoint to the monkey-and-tourist chaos on the hilltop: the garden is spacious, the Buddha figure is serene, and local devotees come to make offerings and sit in the grounds.
