Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling — known informally as the White Monastery for its white-painted exterior — is one of the largest and most active Tibetan Buddhist monasteries at Boudhanath, its main hall capable of holding several hundred monks in assembly. It is associated with the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and is led by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, a widely respected teacher in the Tibetan diaspora.
The monastery is open to visitors outside of teaching sessions and assembly times. The main hall is extraordinarily decorated with Tibetan thangka paintings and statues; the scale of the assembly hall, with its ranks of low seats and butter lamps, gives some sense of the monastic life that continues here. The monastery is directly adjacent to the Boudhanath stupa and combines naturally with a kora walk.
