Things to Do

Camiguin's main draws are outdoor and shaped entirely by its volcanic geology. The Sunken Cemetery — a graveyard that sank beneath the sea in 1871 — is the island's most distinctive dive site and one of the most unusual in the Philippines. White Island, a crescent sandbar offshore, offers the best swimming with the volcano as backdrop. Katibawasan Falls drops 70 metres into a swimmable pool five kilometres from Mambajao.

The two-day ascent of Mt Hibok-Hibok is the island's most demanding activity and rewards with panoramic views across the Bohol Sea. Ardent Hot Springs in the hills above Mambajao are volcanic-fed and best visited in the evening. For history, the Gui-ob Church Ruins — a colonial campanile half-buried by the same 1871 eruption that created the Sunken Cemetery — are one of the more haunting heritage sites in Mindanao. Mantigue Island, 25 minutes offshore, has reliable sea turtle sightings and excellent snorkelling. Jigdup Shoal on the south coast is the best dive site for experienced divers.

The island is small enough to circuit by road in two hours but rewarding enough to stay a week.
