The 210-metre Mount Tapyas, rising directly behind Coron town, is the standard pre-dinner workout for visitors: a concrete staircase of 721 steps that climbs from the edge of town to a large white cross at the top. The view from the summit takes in the whole bay, the karst peaks of Coron Island, and the long flat ridge of Busuanga to the north — exceptionally good at sunset.
Allow about 25 minutes up and 15 down. Bring water; there is no shade. The path is lit at night.
