Taraw Cliff

Taraw Cliff is the limestone peak that rises 200 metres directly behind El Nido town, with the best view of the Bacuit Archipelago you can get without flying. The classic Filipino scramble — straight up the cliff in flip-flops with a teenage guide — was banned after several fatal falls. There is now a regulated, harnessed climb that local cooperatives run on a fixed schedule.

The climb takes about two hours up and 90 minutes down, includes some genuinely exposed sections on chains and ladders, and is not for anyone with serious vertigo. The view, on a clear morning, is among the best on the island.
