The Taiyuan Asian Puppet Theatre Museum holds several thousand puppets gathered from across Asia — Taiwanese glove puppets (budaixi), Javanese shadow figures, Burmese marionettes, Chinese rod puppets and more — displayed over several floors of a converted shophouse in old Dadaocheng. It grew out of the collection of puppet master and folklorist Robin Ruizendaal.
The affiliated Nadou Theatre next door stages regular puppet performances, and the museum runs hands-on sessions. A specialist but charming stop in the Dihua Street area, good with children.
