The Ama Museum — ama means grandmother — is a small, moving museum at the northern end of Dihua Street devoted to the Taiwanese women forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during the Second World War. Opened in 2016 by a women's rights foundation, it tells their stories through photographs, recorded testimony and personal objects, and frames them within a broader programme on women's human rights.
It is one of only a handful of museums of its kind in Asia. Quiet, carefully done and affecting; allow an hour. Closed Mondays.
