Hazeranlar Konağı

The Hazeranlar Konağı is one of the best-preserved Ottoman timber mansions in Amasya and has been converted into an ethnographic museum. It was built in 1865 by Hasan Talat Pasha, a local official, for his sister Hazeran. The building is a fine example of the Amasya Ottoman house type: three storeys, projecting upper floors cantilevered over the street, and a facade of white plaster and dark timber framing that is characteristic of the whole riverfront.

Inside, the rooms are furnished to reflect 19th-century upper-class domestic life, with collections of embroidery, metalwork, and period furniture. The house sits directly on the river bank and has excellent views of the gorge and the tombs above. It is one of a handful of similar konaks that have been restored along the riverfront — several others remain in private hands, their facades in varying states of maintenance.
