Mirror Cave

Rock-cut Pontic tomb above Amasya, known for its polished chamber and valley views.

Mirror Cave is one of the rock-cut tombs that make Amasya feel so dramatically folded into its cliffs. It sits away from the most photographed line of royal tombs, but the same Pontic habit of carving memory directly into the mountain is written into the site.

The name comes from the unusually smooth, reflective finish inside the chamber. Go for the setting as much as the archaeology: from here the city, the Yeşilırmak valley, and the limestone walls all line up in a way that explains why Amasya's old rulers chose the cliffs for their monuments.
