The Al-Bukhari Mausoleum is the memorial complex for Imam al-Bukhari, the 9th-century scholar whose hadith collection became one of the central texts of Sunni Islam. The site lies outside central Samarkand, but it is one of the region's most important pilgrimage destinations.
The modern complex was built over his tomb and has been expanded with a mosque, museum, and landscaped grounds. It is best visited by taxi from Samarkand, with enough time to treat it as a quiet religious site rather than a quick photo stop.
