Imami A'zam Grand Mosque is one of Samarkand's largest active mosques. Its rebuilt yellow-stone exterior and dark turquoise domes give it a strong presence outside the city's better-known Timurid monuments.
Visitors should treat it first as a working place of worship. Dress modestly, avoid prayer times if you only want to look around, and expect a quieter local atmosphere than at Registan or Shah-i-Zinda.
