Da Lat station is one of the most elegant pieces of French colonial architecture in Vietnam — a cream and yellow Art Deco building from 1938 designed with a roof that echoes the three peaks of Langbiang Mountain. The main Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City line never reached Dalat, but a narrow-gauge rack railway once connected the city to the coast at Thap Cham. That line was destroyed during the war; today only the 7km stretch to Trại Mát survives, running a vintage steam-hauled tourist train several times a day. The ride through pine forest to the village — and the Linh Phước Pagoda at the far end — is worth doing once. The station itself is worth photographing even if you don't take the train.
