Berry

South Coast heritage village with old shopfronts, escarpment walks, and easy access to Seven Mile Beach.

Berry is a small South Coast town that has learned how to be a day trip without losing all of its village bones. Queen Street still has old shopfronts, a handsome museum building, bakeries, cafes, and enough weekend traffic to remind you that Sydney is only a couple of hours away.

The good reason to stay longer is the landscape around it. Behind town, the escarpment rises quickly toward Barren Grounds, with Drawing Room Rocks giving one of the best short-walk views in the Shoalhaven. East of Berry, Seven Mile Beach National Park runs along a long surf beach between Gerroa and Shoalhaven Heads.

Berry works best as a gentle base: museum in the morning, lunch in town, then a walk or beach run when the light softens. It is pretty, accessible, and more satisfying if you treat it as town plus countryside rather than just a cafe stop on the highway.
