Tathra

Sapphire Coast beach town with a historic sea wharf, surf, and national parks at both ends.

Tathra is a small beach town on the Sapphire Coast, between Bermagui and Merimbula. It has the easy shape of a south-coast holiday: one long surf beach, a headland, a working-looking old wharf, and forests running close to the water.

The Tathra Wharf is the town's symbol. It is one of the last old sea wharves on this part of the coast, and the view back across Tathra Beach is worth the short walk even if you are not interested in fishing history. Below it, clear water draws snorkellers and divers when conditions are calm.

Tathra is also well placed for nature. Mimosa Rocks National Park begins north of town, while Bournda National Park starts near Kianinny Bay to the south. Add mountain-bike trails and a good surf beach, and Tathra easily fills a spare day on the Sapphire Coast.
