Minnipa

Eyre Peninsula wheatbelt town used as a base for Pildappa and Tcharkuldu granite rocks.

Minnipa is a tiny wheatbelt town on the Eyre Highway, useful mainly because it sits beside some of the best granite outcrops on northern Eyre Peninsula. The town itself is plain, but the surrounding country has rounded pink rock, old water-catchment walls, and big dry-sky silence.

The reason to stop is Pildappa Rock, a wave-like granite inselberg that feels like South Australia's quieter answer to Western Australia's Wave Rock. Tcharkuldu Rock is closer to town and rougher, with boulders, tafoni, and traces of the old water system that supplied Minnipa.

This is not a destination to cross the country for on its own. But if you are already driving the Eyre Highway, it is much better than another fuel stop and a cafe table.
