Hobart is a base. The Tasman Peninsula, with Port Arthur and the dramatic sea cliffs at the Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen, is 90 minutes south-east. Richmond, the best-preserved Georgian village in Australia, is half an hour north. Bruny Island, with oysters, cheese, and Antarctic seabirds, is a long ferry-supported day or better as an overnight. Mount Field National Park and the Russell Falls are an hour north-west. With more time, the wineries of the Coal River and Derwent Valley make for an easy loop.
