Hobart's attractions cluster in three places. The waterfront and Salamanca run together along the Derwent, sandstone warehouses turned galleries, restaurants, and the Saturday market. Battery Point sits up the hill behind them, the convict-era seafarers' quarter that has changed less than anywhere else in the city. And twenty minutes north, on a peninsula in the Derwent, sits MONA — the strangest and most important art museum in Australia.
Beyond that, the city is dominated by the mountain. Kunanyi/Mount Wellington rises 1,271 metres directly behind town, and you can drive to a summit lookout that takes in the city, the river, and on a clear day the entire south-east of the island. Use the filters below to browse by category.
