Suva eats well for a city its size — Fijian, Indo-Fijian, Chinese, and a surprising amount of Korean and Japanese. The traditional Fijian lovo (food cooked in an earth oven) is hard to find as a restaurant meal, but you can order it for groups at one or two places. For everyday eating, the Indian restaurants along Victoria Parade and the Chinese restaurants on Cumming Street are reliable and cheap.
The fish — walu, mahi-mahi, snapper — is excellent and comes straight off the boats in Walu Bay. The kokoda, raw fish cured in lime and coconut milk, is the dish to try first.
