The King Mosque — also known as the Sultan's Mosque — is one of the oldest Ottoman mosques in Albania, built in the early 15th century under the Sultan Bayezid I. It predates the full Ottoman conquest of Albania and represents an early phase of Islamisation in the region, when Ottoman influence was spreading through local rulers rather than direct military control. The building is modest in scale but historically significant.
Like most Albanian mosques, it was closed during the Communist period and is now slowly being restored. The King Mosque sits on the main pedestrian street of Mangalem, a few minutes' walk from the Gorica Bridge, making it easy to combine with a walk through the lower quarter.
