Strandbad Klagenfurt

At the eastern end of the Wörthersee, just where the lake meets the canal that runs into the city, the Strandbad Klagenfurt is one of the largest open-air swimming complexes in Europe. The vast lawn can hold ten thousand bathers; there are diving platforms, jetties, water slides, restaurants and a long shallow shore for children.

The complex dates from 1924 — its functionalist pavilions are protected — and it remains a wonderfully unspoilt place to spend a summer afternoon. Bus 10 from the centre runs to the gate.
