Blaarmeersen is Ghent's big outdoor playground, spread around a lake west of the historic centre. The area mixes beaches, lawns, trails, sports fields, and family facilities, so it works well when the old-city museums and churches start to feel too enclosed.
It is more practical than monumental, but that is part of the value. On warm days it gives visitors a look at local life away from the postcard core, and it can be reached as a half-day outing for swimming, walking, or a relaxed picnic.
