Campo Santo Cemetery in Sint-Amandsberg is one of Ghent's most atmospheric outlying sights, a nineteenth-century burial ground on a small hill east of the centre. Its monuments, chapels, and sculpted graves make it as much an open-air gallery of Belgian funerary art as a cemetery.
It is especially good for travellers who like quiet, slightly eccentric places. Many Ghent artists, writers, and Catholic public figures are buried here, but the broader appeal is visual: stone angels, family vaults, trees, and city history told without crowds.
