The Riva

The Riva is the promenade that runs along the north shore of Trogir's old town island, facing the mainland and the marina. It is the social spine of the city: lined with cafe and restaurant tables, shaded by palm trees, and busy from morning coffee through to late-evening drinks. The boats moored along the waterfront range from small fishing vessels to substantial charter yachts in summer.

The best time to walk the Riva is early morning, when the light comes in low from the east over the mountains and the fishing boats are returning, or in the late afternoon, when the stone facades of the old town glow warm behind the tables. The promenade connects the entrance bridge at the west end to the small beach and park at the east end of the island.
