Loppen is a music venue inside Christiania — an intimate space in one of the old military buildings that has hosted live music for decades. The programming leans toward independent rock, folk, and world music, with occasional jazz and experimental acts. Capacity is small (around 400) which means even international touring acts play in an unusually close-up setting.
The building has a deliberately rough, unfinished interior consistent with Christiania's aesthetic. The bar is cheap by Copenhagen standards. Loppen is one of several cultural institutions inside the free state that give Christiania a cultural life beyond its reputation as a hash market.
