Christianshavns Kirke is the main parish church of Christianshavn, built in the 1750s in the Baroque style. The simple yellow facade faces the main square of the neighbourhood, and the interior has the whitewashed walls and clear light characteristic of Danish Lutheran churches. It has the feel of a working parish church rather than a tourist destination.
The square in front of the church, Christianshavn Torv, is the informal centre of the neighbourhood — a bus stop, a small supermarket, and several cafés around a modest open space. Less dramatic than the canals but a useful point of orientation.
