Pusher Street

Pusher Street is the informal name for the main lane through Christiania where cannabis has been openly sold for decades. The stalls — low wooden tables and makeshift booths — operate in a grey area that the Danish state has periodically tried to close but never fully succeeded in shutting down. The hash market here is one of the most unusual sights in Scandinavia.

Photography is strictly forbidden on Pusher Street and the community enforces this rule seriously — cameras and phones should stay pocketed. Beyond the market itself, the lane is surrounded by hand-built shacks, murals, and the general improvised architecture that defines Christiania. It is worth walking through slowly to see the community around it, not just the market.
