Ebeltoft is one of Denmark's prettiest small harbour towns, tucked into the Djursland peninsula east of Aarhus. Its old centre is all crooked cobbles, half-timbered houses, hollyhocks, and low merchant buildings, with the sea never far away.
The town has more substance than the postcard first suggests. The Fregatten Jylland is a full-rigged 19th-century warship hauled up beside the harbour, and the Glass Museum gives Ebeltoft a clear contemporary craft identity. The Old Town Hall anchors the historic core, while the beaches and Mols Bjerge hills make it easy to stretch a visit beyond the lanes.
Ebeltoft works best as a slow day from Aarhus or as a base for Djursland. Come for the old town in the morning, spend a few hours with the frigate and glass, and leave time for the coast before heading back.
