Nakskov is Lolland's largest town and main port, on the western end of the island. Once a significant industrial centre with shipyards and sugar refineries, it has a quiet post-industrial character today. The old town around the church retains some handsome merchant houses. The ferry to Langeland's Spodsbjerg leaves from here, making Nakskov a practical transit point as well as a destination in its own right.
