Munkebjerg Forest and Hotel

Munkebjerg is the wooded ridge on the south side of Vejle Fjord, accessible by road or by a steep footpath from the water's edge. The forest covers the hillside above the fjord in a dense mix of beech and oak, with several marked walking trails that cut through the trees and emerge at viewpoints looking north across the water to the town.

At the top of the hill sits the Munkebjerg Hotel, a long-established resort hotel that has occupied this spot since 1906. You do not need to be a guest to walk the grounds or to stop at the restaurant. The viewpoint beside the hotel is the best single place to appreciate the full length of Vejle Fjord — on a clear day the water stretches away for several kilometres. The approach on foot from the fjord takes around 45 minutes; by car you can drive up from the south side. The forest is freely accessible year-round.
