Telliskivi Creative City

Former railway workshops turned creative quarter with studios, restaurants, and markets

Telliskivi Creative City is the most interesting part of Tallinn outside the Old Town — a cluster of former railway workshops and warehouses converted into studios, restaurants, bars, a cinema, vintage shops, and event spaces. It sits just north of the main train station, a 15-minute walk from the Old Town along Telliskivi street.

The atmosphere is deliberately casual and anti-corporate: street art covers the walls, food trucks park in the courtyards, and the weekly flea market (Saturdays) is one of the best in the city. The restaurant and bar scene here is more interesting than in the tourist-heavy Old Town — less medieval-themed tavern, more Baltic-Nordic seasonal cooking.

A story
The Telliskivi complex was built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as workshops and storage for the Baltic Railway. By the time it was converted to a creative district in 2009, the buildings had been derelict for years. The name "Telliskivi" means "brick stone" in Estonian — the buildings are indeed all brick. Within a decade it had become the centre of Tallinn's food, design, and nightlife scene.
