A long sand beach on the Hietasaari island 4 km from the centre, with shallow warm water in summer and one of the few "Riviera" feels at this latitude. A boardwalk runs the length of the beach, with cafés, kayak rental, and a spa hotel at one end.
In winter the same beach freezes solid and is used for cross-country skiing, snow castles, and the annual ice fishing competition. Bike paths from the centre take 15 minutes.
