Oulu City Library and Theatre

A pair of late-1970s modernist buildings on the riverfront — the city library by Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen and the city theatre next door — that together form one of the more distinctive pieces of Finnish brutalist architecture outside Helsinki. The library's vast cantilever roof over the entrance has become an Oulu icon.

The reading rooms upstairs have panoramic windows over the river and are open to anyone walking in.
