Kaunispää Fell

Kaunispää, at 437 metres, is the closest fell to the village and the easiest to climb — a paved access road runs almost to the summit and a chair lift carries skiers up in winter. The view from the top is the standard postcard of Saariselkä: a sea of treeless fells rolling east toward the Russian border, with the village a small cluster in the trees below.

A small cafe and lookout sit at the summit, busy in summer with bus tours but blissfully quiet in shoulder season. In winter the bare top catches the wind and the temperature drops fast, so come dressed for it. In autumn the surrounding birches turn gold and the views are at their best.
