Kiilopää

Kiilopää, a 546-metre fell about 10 km southwest of Saariselkä, is the most popular gateway into the wider Urho Kekkonen wilderness. A trail to the rocky summit takes about an hour return and is one of the few hikes here that crosses obvious bare rock rather than the usual peat and birch.

At the foot of the fell sits the Suomen Latu hiking centre — a non-profit lodge with cabins, a wood-fired smoke sauna, and an ice-cold natural pond used for the traditional avantouinti (winter swim). Many hikers start multi-day trips into the park from here.
