Several Sami-run reindeer farms in and around Saariselkä run short visits — usually a sleigh ride through the forest, a feeding session, and a fireside chat about the herder's life over coffee and salmon soup. It is one of the easiest ways to meet a working Sami family and to learn how the herding cycle still shapes the year here.
The farms operate year-round, but sleigh rides obviously need snow. In summer you can still meet the reindeer in their summer pasture. Tirro Reindeer Farm and Petri's Reindeer Farm are both close to the village.
