Île Aucard

The Île Aucard is a long, narrow island in the middle of the Loire just downstream of the Wilson Bridge. Most of it is wooded park, threaded with footpaths and bike trails — one of the easiest escapes from the city centre on a hot afternoon.

The island hosts the annual Aucard de Tours music festival in June, an unpretentious rock and pop affair that has been running since the 1980s and is a fixture of the Tourangeau summer calendar. Otherwise the island is quiet, and the views back to the city from the upstream tip are some of the best you'll get of the south bank rooftops.
