The Prieure de Saint-Cosme, just west of Tours, is a former priory best known as the last home of Pierre de Ronsard, one of France's great Renaissance poets. The site mixes ruins, restored monastic spaces and gardens, giving it a reflective quality that feels different from the big Loire chateaux.
It is a rewarding short excursion from central Tours, especially if you are interested in literature, gardens or quieter historic places. The visit works slowly: cloister fragments, old stone, planted beds and the sense of a retreat where poetry, religion and Loire Valley landscape overlap.
