Tours rewards slow walking. The medieval quarter around Place Plumereau and Place Saint-Pierre-le-Puellier is the most atmospheric part of the city, with half-timbered houses lining narrow lanes that beg to be explored without a plan. The cathedral and the surviving towers of the lost Basilica of Saint Martin anchor the historic centre, and several good museums — the Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Musée du Compagnonnage, and the CCC-OD — fill the gaps between sightseeing and lunch.
