The Alte Kanzlei stands on the northeast side of Stuttgart's Schillerplatz, a Renaissance building begun in the 1540s and later expanded. Its arcades and heavy stonework help frame one of the city's most historic squares.
Today the building is used commercially, so the appeal is mostly from the outside. It is worth pausing for while walking between Schlossplatz, Stiftskirche, and the old palace quarter.
