The Old Palace

Medieval moated palace turned Renaissance courtyard, now a state museum

Already within the 13th century a water-moated palace existed here, which in the 14th century became the head seat of the Counts of Württemberg. In the mid-16th century extensive renovations produced a Renaissance-style palace with a spectacular inner courtyard. The water-filled moat was removed in the 18th century. After significant damage in the Second World War, the palace was fully reconstructed and today houses the Württemberg State Museum.
