The Kolbensesselbahn is the gentler of Oberammergau's two lifts, a chairlift on the western side of the village climbing to the 1,270-metre Kolbensattel. At the top there is a large family-oriented mountain hut, a long summer toboggan run, and a network of easy walks across the upland meadows.
In winter Kolbensattel is the beginner ski area for the valley, with wide blue runs and a snow garden for children. In summer it makes a good base for the loop walk to the Pürschling and back. Tickets cover one-way or return; many walkers take the lift up and walk down to the village in around ninety minutes.
