Oberammergau Museum

The Oberammergau Museum on Dorfstrasse traces the village's two great traditions — woodcarving and the Passion Play — from the Gothic period to the present. The carving collection is the strongest part, with pieces from local workshops dating back to the 16th century, alongside one of the largest collections of nativity cribs in Germany.

A second floor covers the Passion Play with photographs, costumes, and models showing how the production has evolved over four centuries. Captions are in German and English. Plan on an hour to ninety minutes. The same ticket usually gives access to the Pilatushaus workshop a few streets away.
