Kapelle der Versöhnung stands on one of the most charged pieces of the former Berlin Wall strip. Its predecessor, the Church of Reconciliation, was trapped in the border zone and finally blown up by East German authorities in 1985.
The present chapel is deliberately modest, built as a place for reflection and occasional memorial services for victims of the Wall. It fits naturally into a walk along Bernauer Strasse, where the city explains the border with unusual clarity.
