Neue Wache is a small neoclassical guardhouse by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, now Germany's central memorial to victims of war and tyranny. The spare interior is dominated by Kathe Kollwitz's sculpture of a mother holding her dead son, placed under an open oculus so rain and snow fall into the room.
