The Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten commemorates Soviet soldiers killed in the Battle of Berlin in 1945. Built soon after the war, it stands close to the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate, with stone pylons, artillery pieces, and a central soldier figure.
Its location in the former British sector made it one of Cold War Berlin's stranger memorials: guarded by Soviet troops in West Berlin for decades. It is an easy historical stop while walking between the Tiergarten, the Reichstag, and the Brandenburg Gate.
