Norden-Norddeich is really two linked moods of East Frisia. Norden is the old inland town, with a broad market square, brick churches, and tea culture taken seriously. Norddeich is the North Sea edge: harbour, sea air, mudflats, seal station, and ferries out to Norderney and Juist.
This is not a dramatic place, but it has a strong local flavour. The Ostfriesisches Teemuseum is the best introduction to the regional ritual of strong tea, cream, and rock sugar. Nearby, Ludgeri Church has one of Germany's great historic organs. In Norddeich, the Seehundstation Nationalpark-Haus makes the Wadden Sea feel less empty and more alive.
Use Norden-Norddeich as more than a ferry platform. Spend half a day in Norden, then go out to the coast for the seal station, a mudflat walk, or a ferry ride if the tides and timetable line up.
