Ammolofoi Beach

Ammolofoi — the name means "sand dunes" in Greek — is the most organised beach near Kavala, about 10 km west of the city centre. The long sandy stretch is backed by actual dunes, which are unusual on this coast and give the beach an attractive natural setting. In summer it operates with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, and water sports rentals. The sand is fine and the water clean.

Buses from the central station run to Ammolofoi in summer. Beyond Ammolofoi, the coast west towards Nea Peramos has a series of smaller coves and beaches — Palio, Tosca, and Nea Iraklitsa — that are calmer and less organised, better for a quiet swim without the beach bar infrastructure. Nea Iraklitsa is the longest of these and has some accommodation.
